Research Facilities

The Sverdrup Research station offers several research facilities to visiting scientists:
  • 10 offices with phone and Internet connections
  • A small library
  • A lounge for meetings and social gatherings
  • Guest computers
  • Two small workshops for smaller electronical and mechanical repairs
  • A large roof platform for monitoring and guest instruments
  • An instrument/computer room for data recording and monitoring equipment
 

Laboratory facilities provided by Kings Bay

Terrestrial Biology Laboratory (Vaskeri Labben)

The terrestrial biology laboratory is located a few hundred meters to the north of the station, and consists of three separate rooms of 19 m2, 21 m2 and 31 m2.  The laboratory is equipped with a cold storage plant, with a temperature of -25 °C. All equipment needed to perform experiments have to be provided by the visiting researchers.
 

Marine Laboratory

The modern Marine Laboratory located next to the quay of Ny-Ålesund has been in operation since June 2005. Please see the Kings Bay web page for information and booking of the lab facilities.
