Weather Observations in Ny-Ålesund

The Norwegian Meteorological Institute is responsible for the automatic weather station located northwest of the Sverdrup station. See Yr.no for weather forecasts. Wind vector (at 10 m height), air pressure (reduced to mean sea level), relative humidity (2 m) and temperature (2 m) are monitored in minutely bases. The wind chill factor is estimated from the temperature and wind speed.

The visual synoptic observation with cloud type, amount and height, together with horizontal visibility is carried out at 6, 12 and 18 UTC by the station crew. The snow depth and amount of precipitation is observed with 12 hours interval. See eKlima for information and data.
